At the age of six, Michael Foster’s life changed forever when his parents were killed in a tragic accident. Nine years later, he’s largely moved on, having been adopted, allowing him to assume a completely new, peaceful life. Amazing grades, great athletic prowess- after almost a decade of healing, things are finally starting to look up for Michael.

All of that changes the day Sarah Richards arrives on his doorstep.

Next thing Michael knows, he’s on the run from two opposing forces, drawn into a war he has no desire to be a part of. A war where there is no right or wrong- only the lesser of two evils. And as he uncovers the mysteries of Project Reaper, he’ll learn more about his past, his parents, and will move ever closer to fulfilling a destiny that he never knew he had, as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

So it's kind of like you are getting ready to bungee jump off a tall building and just as you are leaving the platform, the person who set up the gear whispers... "I think the rope might be too long."

That's the way this book made me feel. The narrator would set things up in a way that I felt terrified and excited and overwhelmed with everything and just as I was TOO overwhelmed with Michael's (Main Character) situation or obstacles, the narrator (3rd person) would either shift gears to make things a little more calm or do these great, little hilarious jabs; only you don't know when these breaks are coming. And I wished there were more of the funny needles.

One thing that stands out is Sarah' despising the name John... she off's Johns because she hates the name John! LMAO. This, among the narrators other use of humor as a tonic for the horror, and FUBAR-edness put this book in the same vein as Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. Another early thing that was hilarious was that Michael's foster parents were literally named "The Fosters". At first I thought it was cheesy but then the narrator made fun of it too and I laughed my a** off.

I don't want to give anything away, as about 1/10th into this book you are going to be on a terrifying, funny, horrific, edge of your seat ride. I'll just say this: Make sure you have a good chunk of time set aside once you start because you won't be able to put it down and it will mess with your dreams for awhile. Again, thank goodness for the comic relief here and there.

"Trauma"... that is the one word that kept coming back to me as I read this book. The main Character went through some pretty messed up s***! Thank goodness the narrator couched things in a way as to keep it from being too overwhelming; although I still feel a bit traumatized after finishing the book.

If you like Neil Gaiman or maybe even Christopher Moore's A Dirty Job (has that same outrageous but understated end of the world - sense of humor), chances are you will really enjoy this book. Can't believe it is only 3 bucks. I've spent MUCH more for books that didn't hold a candle to this. Don't get me wrong, this aint Moby Dick, but if you are looking for a great escape, you have found it.

When I opened the book it said something about a trilogy... can't wait for the next installment from Mr Worley. I hope for more of the comic relief.

I never would have known about it if Amazon didn't recommend it based on my liking Neil Gaiman and The Hunger Games.
Where did this author come from? I'm thinking a real seedy part of San Fransisco.

Just get this book. It's much cheaper than bungee jumping and equally terrifying, invigorating and exciting.

Project Reaper edition by Connor Worley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This book wasn't very interesting. I often found it difficult to continue reading the book, so I would set it down and come back with a fresh mind. However, this book not a pager turner for me. I've read some better books in my days, and I don't exactly recommend this book, but I'll probably try to re-read the book in the future.
Wow. I read alot and although the book got off to a slow start, I really enjoyed the suspense and the character development. What a page turner. For a 17 year old, I would say great job! Soon your books will say "NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER" and he will be up there with Brad Thor and Clive Cussler! This book was hard to put down . My first experience with E-reader, had to make sure I was fully charged because I knew I was going to be up late reading. Can't wait for the 2nd in the series, it can only get better. I hope Worley is hitting the keys now. Project Reaper (Reaper Trilogy) by The Shadow Reader
A great book by an up-and-coming author. Found this book on a recommendations list. Thoroughly impressed. Well-developed plot. Interesting, dynamic characters. I would like to see where the other two books go!
Great read for a great price. I don't normally go for this type of sci-fi / adventure but this book was recommended to me, so I took a chance and am so glad I did! The action is pretty much non-stop and the characters are likeable (at least the ones your supposed to like). Great story, strong plot, excellent character development... all kept me along for the ride. The only tiny little quibble I had was that sometimes I wished the narrator would sort of step off the stage, so to speak, and allow the great action to unfold; but then again the narrator was pretty funny at times so I dunno.

Definitely worth the price of admission and then some.
Will be reading the rest of this trilogy for sure.
This story, while a bit raw, is a fascinating start for a young author's career. I originally purchased this book in an attempt to support my friend, and the author of this series, Connor Worley. Having read some of his short stories during my friendship with him I was expecting something of similar caliber. I was pleasantly surprised to find that he was able to put together a remarkable piece considering his young age. While it does get a bit slow at times you can see how the author improves his own writing as the story progresses, making it more interesting and better paced as we follow Michael further into his journey of discovery. While not the best read, I would give this a four out of five for the sheer potential of the series and the level at which it improves, and will continue to improve, as the story continues. I'm looking forward to seeing where Connor will take it for the next installment.
